Dining Chairs
How do you choose the right dining chairs?
Have you found a beautiful dining table, but it doesn't come with chairs? Your dining table and chairs don't have to match! When choosing dining chairs for your new table, just make sure they fit the size and style of your dining table. In this article, you'll read what to look out for when buying chairs for your dining table.
Size of the dining chairs
Before picking out dining chairs, you need to know what dimensions they should be. Measure your dining table from the top to the floor. The distance between your new dining chairs and the table should be 20 to 35 centimeters. Most people will sit most comfortably at a table on a chair that's 43 to 50 centimeters high, measured from the floor to the seat. However, this can vary depending on the thickness of the tabletop and the size of the person.
Width and depth
Besides choosing the right height, you also need to make sure the number of chairs you buy actually fits under the table. If they don't fit well, people won't feel comfortable at the table and both the table and chairs could get damaged. The dining chairs should be able to slide under the table without hitting the table legs. Make sure there's enough space so the chairs don't touch each other: leave at least five centimeters between each chair.
Arm and back height
Are you opting for chairs with armrests? Make sure they are the right size so the tops of the armrests don't bump into the underside of the tabletop. For the right back height, choose a chair where the backrest is at least two centimeters higher than the tabletop.
Style of your interior
The style of your dining chairs and table should be compatible. So make sure to choose chairs that share a common element with the table. This could be a color or a design detail in the legs of the table and chairs. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, do you have a very modern, ultra-sleek dining table? Then you can pair it with a set of vintage chairs. Some combinations seem so outrageous, they just work!
